Volunteer Work

The Angel Fund is a non-profit organization to help women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. The first Newfoundland and Labrador chapter of the Angel Fund began in Bay Roberts to help raise money for local women with breast cancer and their financial needs. My mother's boss Elizabeth Pilgrim was one of the founders in the Angel Fund.

My mom was volunteering so I decided that I would like to volunteer my time towards this cause as well. I became involved in some of the events that the Angel Fund put off.  I helped set up, ushered and cleaned up for the 2 fashion shows and the Mother's Day Tea and the Santa Clause Parade.  Whatever the ladies needed done,I did .

This disease hits home to anyone that has a mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and any other women in your life.  It's rewarding to know that people care and want to help these women and their families by lessening the financial burden.  I'm glad I can be a part of that.

As of today The Angel Fund has raised over $60,000 and helped over 30 clients. We have supplied women with such things as wigs, prosthetics and alternative medicines such as vitamins and supplements from the wellness centre. We have alson provided lynphodema sleeves, gas and food. All these things help towards the financial burdens on these women with breast cancer.

Each year, more and more people become aware of what we are doing. More people want to help and even more need to be helped. Hopefully we will continue doing what we are doing as well as finding new ways to raise more money.
